The true colors of Doug von Koss…

September 14th, 2010 § 1 comment § permalink

art•ist |ˈärtist| noun
• A person who practices any of the various creative arts.
ORIGIN early 16th century (denoting a master of the liberal arts):
from French artiste, from Italian artista, from arte art, from Latin art-.

Doug von Koss is such a person….
He speaks from the heart through the thousand poems he knows.
Under his direction we sing in ways we never have before
making inspired harmonies brought forth through
sacred words and ancient chants……..

Doug finds the creative nugget in each of us,
inspiring beauty, joy and soulful inspiration
that follow wherever he goes,
all combined to make this
Gratitude Goulash

Take down your biggest pot,
bigger than you think you need.
Slice, dice or cut into manageable pieces
the desiccated remains
of all your life’s
calamitous events.
Look around for missed ingredients.
Add clean water, local honey and vinegar.
Bring this mess to a rolling boil then
simmer on a back burner for several days.
When your kitchen smells good,
ask a close friend to come over.

Get out two old bowls,
they need not match.
Just before serving add a dollop of success
and a smidgen of failure.
Then be very liberal with paprika.

Solemnly  bless the goulash,
and take a few bites…
Laugh together, forgive yourself,
then gratefully
go out to eat.
-Doug von Koss

Songs from the heart…

August 17th, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink

Leslie Tift & Tom Scott’s passion for music,
whether singing, writing or playing,
is a life long journey that has just been captured on their new CD,
a labor of love celebrating this acoustic musical duo’s inspired talents…

Their commitment to their craft is reflected in the richness of Leslie’s voice,
Tom’s poetry and musical skills
and the gathering of a talented group of musicians
for the recording of this CD.

Below a taste of Tom’s lyrics, from his song
“Like a Pebble in My Shoe”
“I can read it like the writing on the wall
I can hear it on the wire if  it’s there at all
I can smell it with my nose to the wind
Bear the weight like original sin
Guess I knew it like the back of my hand
Or a dream that I’ve had over and over again
It’s as real as a pebble in my shoe
there’s no denying it babe it’s me and you…

Join us for the CD Release Concert,
SATURDAY AUGUST 28 at The WAYSIDE  GRILL in MT SHASTA,
starting at 7:30 or so,
in fact having dinner there might just be the ticket (!……..)
Opening the evening of  joyful celebration will feature
a new gifted and enthusiastic musical group “Champion Club”.

4 artist friends meet once a year,
doing art with sticks and stones,
bronze and paint, cameras, pencil and paper,
inspired by everything around them…
Gratitude to all who came and all who were there in spirit!

You can now find Tim Corcoran, the gallery’s owner
and immensely talented photographer,
teaching wilderness skills at his Outdoor School throughout the summer.

Chris Schneider is currently showing his new work
at the Gallery in Mt Shasta through July 9th.

When she’s not doing her art,
Julie Boettler is assisting Tim in his outdoor school.
