Songs from the heart…

August 17th, 2010 § 0 comments   click to comment

Leslie Tift & Tom Scott’s passion for music,
whether singing, writing or playing,
is a life long journey that has just been captured on their new CD,
a labor of love celebrating this acoustic musical duo’s inspired talents…

Their commitment to their craft is reflected in the richness of Leslie’s voice,
Tom’s poetry and musical skills
and the gathering of a talented group of musicians
for the recording of this CD.

Below a taste of Tom’s lyrics, from his song
“Like a Pebble in My Shoe”
“I can read it like the writing on the wall
I can hear it on the wire if  it’s there at all
I can smell it with my nose to the wind
Bear the weight like original sin
Guess I knew it like the back of my hand
Or a dream that I’ve had over and over again
It’s as real as a pebble in my shoe
there’s no denying it babe it’s me and you…

Join us for the CD Release Concert,
SATURDAY AUGUST 28 at The WAYSIDE  GRILL in MT SHASTA,
starting at 7:30 or so,
in fact having dinner there might just be the ticket (!……..)
Opening the evening of  joyful celebration will feature
a new gifted and enthusiastic musical group “Champion Club”.

Celebrating Spirit…

David Joaquin is a talented Artist
whose work has been greatly influenced by the ways of the Native People.
Using his Art, he has committed  to recording  Ritual, Ceremony
and Everyday Life that honor and respect all living things.
Through his passion for bringing authenticity to his paintings,
he often uses ground semi precious stones and naturally colored earth
as pigment, which add an uncommon depth to his work.

To join David in the Celebration of Spirit,
I have been asked to create some new Stone Letters and Talking Sticks…

The Opening of our new show “CELEBRATING SPIRIT”
will be at THE GALLERY in MT SHASTA
on SATURDAY  AUGUST 14, from 4 to 7
with new pieces created especially for this event.

4 for Art in Mt Shasta

June 15th, 2010 § 1 comment   click to comment

4 artist friends meet once a year,
doing art with sticks and stones,
bronze and paint, cameras, pencil and paper,
inspired by everything around them…
Gratitude to all who came and all who were there in spirit!

You can now find Tim Corcoran, the gallery’s owner
and immensely talented photographer,
teaching wilderness skills at his Outdoor School throughout the summer.

Chris Schneider is currently showing his new work
at the Gallery in Mt Shasta through July 9th.

When she’s not doing her art,
Julie Boettler is assisting Tim in his outdoor school.

And I continue to find inspiration
in every day……

“I have a fully equipped shop but my hands are at the heart of my work.
For me, quality is a way of being, a way of life;
that is what I offer through what I build.”

Art in life

April 20th, 2010 § 1 comment   click to comment

to a precious friend living her life as art,

this poem by Mary Oliver
speaks to who you are…..

MINDFUL

Every day
I see or hear
something
That more or less

kills me
with delight,
that leaves me
like a needle
in the haystack
of light.

It is what I was born for -
to look, to listen,

to lose myself
inside this soft world-
to instruct myself
over and over

in joy,
and acclamation.
Nor am I talking
about the exceptional,

the fearful, the dreadful,
the very extravagant-
but the ordinary,
the common, the very drab,

the daily presentations.
Oh, good scholar,
I say to myself,
how can you help

but grow wise
with such teachings
as these-
the untrimmable light

of the world,
the ocean’s shine,
the prayers that are made
out of grass?

This drawing, “Silence”, inspired by the experience.
