Shiny Shoes in Paris (first installment)

Well, the circus act (blogging from Paris) didn’t happen
due to technical difficulties……
but the shiny shoes were all over the place,
recognized, admired,  even coveted (!)
“Ou avez vous achete vos belles chaussures?”
(where did you buy your beautiful shoes?)
“Ashland, of course!” (Ashland, bien sur!)

We walked & walked everyday in this most walking friendly & beautiful city.
The weather was perfect, cold enough to walk at a good pace and melt away
La Duree macarons,

petits pains au chocolat, croissants or brioches…..

Evening would find us making big endive or mache salads,
with of course a baguette (picked up on the way home still warm from the oven)
and cheese fresh from the farm at the local market with a glass of wine,
feeling immensly grateful and contented….

There are favorite quartiers that I like to visit, le Marais being one of them
(the oldest quartier in Paris, near the Louvre)
lots of narrow streets and businesses established centuries ago:
FINKLESTEIN’S has delicious fig bars and
(New York style, well…Paris style) cheese cake.
It is an old jewish Boulangerie/Patisserie famous for its products
passed down from generations.
The place is always packed, it is run by welcoming women and
the patriarch handling the euros at la caisse.

Another delightful stop was MARIAGE FRERES established in the mid 1800s,
selling teas and everything related to the practice of tea drinking;
some favorite teas: Earl Grey French Blue,
The Des Offrandes (green tea with rose petals from the hills of Thailand)
and now The Blanc Apres l”Orage (White Tea After the Storm,
the name alone had me convinced…)

Also went to LE LOIR DANS LA THEIERE,
a friendly tea place with Alice in Wonderland Art on the wall and
a most delicious orange custard tarte with a caramelized topping,
accompanied with rose scented white tea
(Kathy, thanks for the white tea recommendation, now a daily practice!)
